RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME
Restless Legs Syndrome Care in Edina, MN
Evaluation and individualized treatment for nighttime leg discomfort, an urge to move, and sleep disruption.
Restless legs syndrome evaluation
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) causes an uncomfortable urge to move the legs, often accompanied by creeping, pulling, tingling or other difficult-to-describe sensations. Symptoms usually occur during rest, are worse in the evening or at night, and improve temporarily with movement.
A careful evaluation can help distinguish RLS from leg cramps, neuropathy, medication effects and other causes of nighttime discomfort.
Symptoms
An urge to move the legs, discomfort at rest, evening worsening and temporary relief with movement.
Evaluation
We review symptoms, medications, sleep patterns and relevant medical history. Iron status may be considered when clinically appropriate.
Treatment
Management is individualized and may include addressing contributing factors, iron deficiency when present, behavioral strategies or medication when needed.
RLS and sleep quality
When restless legs symptoms delay sleep or cause repeated nighttime disruption, daytime fatigue and impaired concentration may follow. Treatment aims to reduce symptoms while minimizing medication-related complications.
