Restless Leg Sydrome

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder characterized by an uncontrollable urge to move the legs, usually due to uncomfortable sensations. These sensations typically occur in the evening or at night, especially when a person is resting, sitting, or lying down. Movement β€” such as walking or stretching β€” provides temporary relief, but symptoms often return once the activity stops.

The exact cause of RLS is unknown, but it’s believed to involve dopamine imbalance in the brain. It may also be related to conditions like iron deficiency, pregnancy, kidney disease, or nerve damage. RLS can disrupt sleep, leading to insomnia, fatigue, and reduced quality of life.

Symptoms:

  • Strong urge to move the legs, often accompanied by uncomfortable sensations

  • Symptoms worsen during periods of rest or inactivity (e.g., sitting or lying down)

  • Relief through movement, like walking, stretching, or shaking the legs

  • Symptoms are worse in the evening or at night

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep due to leg discomfort
